When Texas Tech’s Industrial Engineering program began almost 100 years ago, it did so with the intent of being one of the best in the country. When you join the program in the Costa Rica campus, you join a department that has graduated 2,000 engineers.  Studying the physical, mathematical, biological, behavioral, and engineering sciences, students learn how to design systems that address contemporary issues in a wide range of fields. Faculty Spotlight: Emmanuel Fernandez

A Costa Rican by birth, Professor Emmanuel Fernandez had a long career as an engineering professor in the United States before deciding to return to Costa Rica. He worked as an administrator at a Costa Rica institution when he decided to seek another faculty position. But where? A chance meeting at a conference in Orlando brought him to the attention of Texas Tech’s Industrial Engineering department chair, and Fernandez was soon settled at TTU-CR.

With his wealth of experience, Professor Fernandez fundamentally cares about helping his students embark on engineering careers. TTU’s Industrial Engineering program is a solid foundation, he says: “It prepares students to be top-notch professionals in diverse areas of work.”

Furthermore, the students’ quality shines through. After more than 20 years at public research universities in the United States, Fernandez says, “I’m confident that TTU-Costa Rica’s Industrial Engineering students rank among the best.

Beyond academics, Professor Fernandez genuinely loves working with students. “In my students, I honestly see young colleagues and the future of engineering,” he reflects.
